Karina has an eye for the unusual. Having in earlier work worked in jewelry design and in administrative role, she is accustomed to being asked for the unexpected and to show initiative. Traits that are very useful in Moscow.
Originally from Belgium, she accompanied her adventurous spouse on assignments to England, Holland and Moscow ,where she has lived for four years. “At first Moscow was daunting," she says, "it takes a while before you start seeing the beauty of this exciting city. Contrast can be found in every area of the city and little food markets still exist when big gourmet shops are just around the corner. Art is a fact of life, museums, theatres with excellent performers and craft markets all wait to be enjoyed and explored. The pace is frantic and change is always on the cards with numerous hotels, businesses, restaurants and shops opening up in and around the center”.
A big lifeline for expatriates is the international community groups that offer the possibility to make friends or learn new skills. You can also get interested in Russian heritage and explore the city with the architecture group, visit museums, theatre or discuss Russian literature. Karina feels that apart from helping with the home search she would like to make people feel at home in this beautiful, exiting city.
She looks forward to using her experience to help you navigate your way around the opportunities (and pitfalls) to find activities to suit your family and feel at ease to call Moscow home.
