Hong Kong Destination Consultant
Maureen was born and raised in the UK. In 1994, her husband and she decided to travel the world. They set off to Sydney, Australia, on an assignment, then moved to Singapore, Boston, Dublin, back to Sydney, Shanghai, and finally settled in Hong Kong. They have been in Hong Kong since 2004.
Professionally, Maureen has a background in HR and finance. She is a qualified accountant, and has put her skills to use during her travels, working on payroll for financial and law firms, as well as in industry. Maureen is an outdoor person who enjoys hiking the various country park trails in Hong Kong. She is also active in the volunteer sector, is on the Social Committee of the Australian Association, and each month runs an ‘Explore Hong Kong’ and “Wandering Wednesday “expedition for fellow expatriates.
'Getting involved is the key to feeling at home in Hong Kong,' she explains. 'It is such a different culture from what Westerners are used to - incredibly crowded, colourful, full of strange foods and odours. But once you're active, Hong Kong is fantastic.'
She looks forward to introducing you to the city – not just the best places to live, the best ways to arrange transport, cell phones, or domestic help, but also the eating places with the best views or the best food, where to catch music or theatre, and what to be aware of when you work or are friends with local people.
