Linda has been happily living in Budapest for eight years, an expatriate from the frantic city life of Chicago. “I feel especially lucky to have the opportunity to experience a slower but “sophisticated European lifestyle” in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Linda (Army brat) and her husband László (master photographer) have lived all over the globe. When her American-Hungarian born husband quietly suggested, “living for a spell in Hungary,” she jumped at the idea. Years later, she feels Budapest is a particularly appealing place to call “home.”
Her career background is a typical expatriate mixture – from retail management in Chicago, to features writing and media management in Europe. She has taken an old idea from the New World (volunteer museum docents) and brought it to Old Europe as a new idea in the Fine Arts Museum of Budapest.
Budapest can present special challenges for those who move there due to the hard-to-learn language, and its citizens unkind preference for using it. In spite of that, it is, in Linda’s words, ‘a thriving city where wine, art, music and folk-art festivals fill the calendar. The physical beauty rivals Hong Kong and Rio de Janeiro, especially breathtaking at night.’
‘Although I am obviously under the seductive spell of the city,’ she says, ‘I do remember the initial confusion and uneasiness of relocating. I appreciate the great value a real insider can be to the newly arrived. We in the Budapest YourGuide team look forward to helping you.’
